Just like its predecessor in 1999, The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water
is an adventure animated comedy. A combination of humour and weird, illogical
scenarios (talking space dolphins, talking sea gulls), the film might not
please the older audiences but it sure will catch the interest of younger audience,
especially with its annoyingly cheerful and cute Bikini Bottom creatures.
Although the plot of the film is not those typical adventures one get to
watch on Spongebob TV series, it is undeniable that the story was rather
interesting and easily understandable by not only the adults but also the kids.
So, parents need not fear of their kids asking them countless of
questions while watching the film. The plot is pretty simple with no hidden
mysteries or any hint of sexual genre. It will be a definitely safe choice for
parents who planned to bring their kids out for movie.
In the beginning of the movie, we are introduced to Burger Beard (AntonioBanderas) who was not only a pirate, but surprisingly was also a fast food
vendor! In an Indiana Jones style plot, Burger Beard arrived at a secluded
island and decided to get a book from an ancient ruin. It turned out that the
book was actually a story book which tells the ill-fated story of Bikini
Bottom.

The producer’s choice to begin the film was kinda interesting as most
viewers would be expecting Spongebob andhis friends to appear right in the
beginning. So, the story enfolds with the introducing Krabby Patties, the
extremely popular burgers sold only in Krusty Krab, a burger joint in Bikini
Bottom. The Krabby Patties were so popular that it became a part of the Bikini
Bottom’s life.
Almost every second, someone will
be munching a Krabby Patties. The obsession over the burger was terrifyingly
great that when the secret formula for the patties was stolen, Bikini Bottom
fell into apocalypse state. Imagine the world becoming crazy over a burger? The
adults might laugh over this but for the kids; it was an extremely serious
matter.
Plankton, a tiny rival to Krusty
Krab became a teammate of Spongebob, who daringly decided to search for the
secret formula in order to save Bikini Bottom. After several hilarious and
crazy adventures, they finally realised it was the doings of Burger Beard who
stole the formula from Krusty Krab.
By then, Spongebob and his friends gained powers, becoming superheroes.
(Sounds like Big Hero6?) Just like every cartoons, they defeated Burger Beard
and was able to retrieve the secret formula. Bikini Bottom had returned to its
usual jovial mood.

The turning point of Sponge Out
of Water was during its live action finale where Spongebob and his friends were
depicted looking stocky and buff up. Avid fans of Spongebob won’t be able to
stop themselves from laughing and end up gasping for breath upon seeing these oddly
looking bodybuilder bodies on their favourite characters.
Though Sponge Out of Water was a great comedy film, it was sad to see
the jokes and gags were repetitive. Besides, the originally 2-D characters
seemed to be unable to blend well with the 3-D looks and live action scenes.
They looked rather like cartoon characters being forcefully pasted on the
screen as the camera recorded the background.
However, the rap battle between
the space talking dolphin and talking seagulls were entertaining and the choice
to end the film with Spongebob’s theme song was befitting.
Spongebob Movie : Sponge Out of Water has great potential to be a top notch
live action animated comedy but the narration and the graphics were too shallow
which made it a not worthy film to spend extra bucks on. It is an okay film to
watch for but certainly can’t be compared to Toy Story.
I swear I almost gone crazy after hearing Spongebob's signature laughter.
